Goodbye Lissy 😢♥️♥️♥️

As much as we would like it to be different, our two fabulous years with Lissy have come to an end.  Since we met her our days have been full of smiles, adventures, funny activities, valuable moments, lots of things learned and especially parties like the one we organised for her on her last school day. 

All of you did a great performance with the songs you sang for her, and all of you wrote your most heartfelt messages to bless her goodbye. I put all of them in a lovely box for her to keep forever, as a memory to cherish whenever she might be feeling in a reflective mood. 

She enjoyed herself lots at her party and told me she was really grateful for everything we had done for her. Here you can see all the pictures that we took on THE GREAT DAY, because despite it was her last and we all were a bit sad about her leaving, it was really a day full of joy and satisfaction. We will miss you Lissy!

Time flies 😳⏰

And so it’s my last week, it’s like I started this new year yesterday. I remember receiving the news that I would be in Clara another year and being so happy about it, little did I know that before I could blink... it’s over! 

But as I look back on the last 9 months, it hasn’t disappointed! I’ve enjoyed this year and it’s exceeded expectations. Some of you I met for the first time, and some of you we’ve developed our relationship. I feel so lucky and blessed to not have only been placed in my dear Clara Campoamor, but also to have 2 years working with you all. 

All of you have been a pleasure to teach and your sense of humour is really special, along with your desire to try in English, even if it doesn’t quite work. But we can laugh and move on, the mistakes you make only make you better at English, don’t worry, I’ve had my fair few embarrassing Spanish moments too. Thank you for being the most wonderful and energetic (sometimes too much) students I could meet and I wish I could stay another year.... this time it really is my last week :( 

I hope we can have a great last week together and enjoy the remaining moments, I have so many wonderful memories in Clara and I’ll remember them in my heart wherever I go. 

Thanks to every single one of you, without you wonderful students and teachers, my experience wouldn’t have been the same! 

I’m going to keep this short, but here’s to the 3 days left- love to you all!

More festivities ❤️

The past month has been jam packed with lots of Spanish festivities! As a country, you have so much culture and I love it. 

In England we don’t have as many festivities. For example, at Easter we don’t have processions or celebrate everyday. We only celebrate Easter on Easter Sunday. We have Easter egg hunts in our houses or there are some organised around the countryside. We just look for chocolate eggs and then get to eat them. We also give big chocolate Easter eggs as presents to our families and friends. Lastly, we have a Sunday roast dinner with roast chicken, pork or lamb, roast potatoes, gravy, and lots of vegetables. 

Whereas here in Spain there is something happening everyday, I find Semana Santa really interesting as it’s so different to where I live. I love how everyone gathers in the streets and there is lots of atmosphere. The floats are also beautiful with all the flowers and gold and silver, although I won’t miss the sound of the drums. This year I was lucky in Semana Santa as whimsy staying here to write university work (not a highlight of the year) I got to spend time with lots of friends here. I tried lots of traditional Easter sweet treats, saw some processions and even went to priego where they fight to carry the Jesus float and eat a special bread with an egg inside after the priest has blessed it. I had a wonderful week, and I’ll definitely come back next Easter to see it. 

Also, with the fiestas Aracelitanas, they are also really special and something I feel very lucky to see. In England we don’t have saints for each town, only one for the country (Saint George) and nobody celebrates him, we only know they date because of google reminding us. I find it really heartwarming that so many people celebrate Araceli and feel so passionate about something, it’s an incredible thing to witness. I loved the fireworks and watching the flowergiving, and also enjoyed going to the feria to dance a little bit. In the end, I’ve grown attached to Araceli and will definitely always remember here wherever I am in the world. 

Now I’m really looking forward to the this month, with the patios and Cordoba Feria. Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy the time I have left here and make the most of it. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the many holidays we’ve had recently.

St Patrick’s day fun

March has been a fun month for me because I got to share one of my hobbies with you all... IRISH DANCING. It’s something that had taken up the majority of my life, from practicing and competing and I’m happy hay St Patrick’s day gave me an opportunity to use it with you. 

I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to teach some of you this Irish tradition by jigging around in music lessons and at the transition activity. I know it’s not quite flamenco, but I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to do something a little different. It put a smile on my face to see you all trying something out of your comfort zone and give it your best shot. I’m forever grateful for you always giving everything a go!! 

I also loved the blessings you wrote, that are now displayed at the front of school. Some of them really inspired me and I hope they all come true. You really all do have something special to offer and you deserve only the best. 

May the luck of the Irish always be with you 🍀☘️💚

Festivities 🎉❤️🥞

I thought I would write a blog to talk about some recent festivities I’ve experienced; some Spanish and some from my own country. 🇪🇸🇬🇧

Firstly, there was Valentine’s Day 💖💗❤️🌸 I was very excited to be in Spain this year to see how you all celebrate it. I particularly loved the celebrations you had at school, as in the UK it isn’t such a big thing. I think it’s a wonderful idea to send something small as a sign of appreciation or just to let somebody know you’re thinking about them. We underestimate the power of a kind word or a small gift, it really does have the power to change somebody’s day, week or even life. We never know how much we could help somebody. We all need to be reminded that we are great people sometimes it that we are doing a good job. It was lovely to see you receive flowers or cards on the day, love really was in the air. I was also lucky enough to receive some things and I’m very grateful for those, I’ll never forget it. Thank you 🌸❤️ sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most, it’s the thought that counts. 

Also, talking about love and Valentine’s Day, i would like to thank all of you that featured in our very own video about love. You should all be really proud of yourselves 

After Valentine’s Day, it was time for a traditional English festivity... Pancake day 🥞🥞😋 one of my personal favourites because who doesn’t want an excuse to eat pancakes all day. We celebrate pancake day as a way to begin lent. Traditionally people would make pancakes to use up all the eggs, flour and milk before lent starts. Nowadays, it’s more of a trend to eat pancakes. This year my housemate and I made pancakes here in Spain. The best thing about pancakes is that you can choose the topping, although a Personal favourite of mine is Nutella and strawberry’s. I also was able to make pancakes with the aula específica. We made traditional English pancakes (thinner than the American ones and thicker than a crepe, in case you’re wondering the difference). These are eaten with lemon juice and sugar. We had great fun making them and even more fun eating them 🤤

Last but not least, as I write this, I’m on the way back from Cádiz Carnival. This was something I had planned to go to last year but unfortunately couldn’t... it has been worth the wait. We don’t really have anything similar back home, so it’s been really interesting to see. I loved all the street performances that popped up in random corners and the floats parading around the streets. It really has felt like being in a movie. The atmosphere was really alive in every nook and cranny. I would definitely go again, and I especially enjoyed it being with 3 friends from home. Another perk was being able to dress up in fancy dress like a child again. Spain, you keep getting better and better. I’m very grateful to be surrounded by such a bubbly and rich culture. Also being in Cádiz I enjoyed being able to take advantage of the beach. It really does feel like summer already... let’s hope I don’t start to burn soon.

 

Above all, it’s been a great few weeks of enjoying many special celebrations. Other than celebrations, I’m really lucky to be enjoying time with the new friends I’ve made here and spain really does feel like my home. I’m now looking forward to St Patrick’s day. ☘️

Our best projects

Good morning to you all!

Today I would like to show you some of the best bilingual projects our students have done so far. In 1st ESO they prepared posters with instruments, their parts and very interesting information about them. Our music teacher, Blanca, coordinated all of them to get this fabulous result! You can have a look at them at the notice board behind our head teacher's office, they are worth seeing. And of course, here you have pictures of all of them. 

Also, our students in 2nd ESO recorded videos to show how medieval life was like. They did really good performances and even used some drama techniques, well done!! Our teachers Enrique and Curro coordinated all of them to get these wonderful jobs done.

HAPPY SAINT VALENTINE EVERYONE!!

This week we are celebrating Saint Valentine at our school and our students from 1st ESO have prepared these hearts with sentences to promote healthy and respectful loving. They will all be hanging on the tree we have at the school hall in the next few days for everyone to see and read. We have to thank all students who participated and especially 1st ESO C, who helped getting the hearts ready for being hung on the tree. 

At our school we will also have roses and carnations with lovely notes delivered on Thursday, so I wish everyone good luck so that you get lots of them!! 

And the most important, never forget to love yourself....:)

What peace means to me ⭐️☀️💫

It’s the day you celebrate peace day tomorrow, so I thought I’d write a little blog about this word. 

PEACE, such a small and simple word, yet has the ability to change the world, a country, a school or a single individual. The truth is the need for peace exists on grand scales and smaller scales. The obvious need for peace would be to end a war that has gone on for way too long or to stop an argument, or in the case of the United Kingdom... to create peace with Europe over Brexit (more on that another time 😂) But the truth is, peace is simpler than that... it’s Learning  to accept that there are other people around, other kind of thoughts, other beliefs, other religions and that is okay. our most valuable ownership is an open mind. Peace means living a life where your rights are guaranteed. A life in which your successes and failures are the result of your own actions. Peace is forgiveness. It only exists when you smile at the person who has made you go through a difficult situation or smiling at life itself when you really want to cry as it hasn’t played ball. Peace is saying “let us move on” and means loving every human being equally for who they truly are and to be able to live without fear of anything. We may not find peace every second of every day, but if we look a little harder there will always be a moment of peace 

For me peace is: 

Peace is a home where there is laughter, cuddling, and quiet moments of just feeling good about all that is around.

Peace is getting lost in the lyrics of song.

Peace is a workplace that respects individuals, creativity, and contributions. Just like our Clara. 

Peace is hiking in the countryside without anyone around for miles with a breeze and a slight smell of a spring rain.

Peace is the clean, quiet scene after a major blizzard. All outside looks crisp, clear, and pure.

Peace is a conversation that makes you think.

Peace is holding hands and just walking deep in thought and comfort, knowing there is nothing we cannot do and all is okay.

Peace is being accepted for who we are while be challenged on how we can be better.

Peace is feeling comfortable in our own skin

Peace is baking a brownie or cake and sharing it after, or even enjoying eating it 

Peace is a cup of tea and a good book 

Peace is a feeling that we are making a difference in what we do.

Peace is being lost in thought.

Peace is knowing that everything happens for a reason and that everything will be alright in the end.

Peace is eating an English breakfast alone with the nattering of people around 

Peace is staring out of a plane window watching the fluffy clouds, the mountains below, the snow caps and being content that people are going about their daily lives 

Peace is getting a piece of homework done 

Peace is laughing with a friend until your belly hurts, chatting away without looking at the clock and a long hug with them that makes everything stop for a while. 

Peace is dancing your heart out and getting lost in the music forgetting the world around you 

Peace is knowing you put a smile on someone’s face 

Peace is the feeling of someone wanting to speak to you even when they’re busy or knowing that you’re ok in your own company 

Peace is knowing your did your best

Peace is so many things and the ultimate peace is not only world peace but also inner peace 

Turns out there are so many different ways we can perceive the word peace and how we can feel our own little bit of everyday or how we never know when we are helping another person feel a little bit of peace in this hectic world. 

I’ll leave you with one final reflection of peace:

What does peace mean to you?? 

I wish you all so much for peace for the next minute, the next hour, today, tomorrow, the next year and the rest of your lives. May you forever find peace and share peace with everyone you meet: whether a stranger, a friend or family ⭐️☀️💫🌼
