A Biography of an Important Person in my Life

Vice Ganda. He is a popular comedian and a TV host in the Philippines. Although he doesn't know me personally, and I only admire him from afar, I consider him one of the most important persons in my life. A few years ago, I was in a rough place. I was unhappy, unmotivated, insecure. Vice Ganda helped me get through that time with his comedy. His positivity inspired me to get better and keep going.

Jose Marie Borja Viceral, better known as Vice Ganda, was born on the 31st of March 1976 in Manila, Philippines. The youngest of five children, Vice grew up with his grandparents because his father died when he was young and her mother was left with no choice but to work abroad to support her children. He studied political science at Far Eastern University.

He began his professional career as a singer. However, he was selected to perform standup in well-known comedy clubs/bars in Manila because of his skills. Next, he hosted and made guest appearances in TV series and variety shows. He started gaining audience from the mainstream media through these guest appearances. Finally, Vice’s moment of glory in his television career came in 2009 when he was picked up as a judge for ‘Showtime,' a highly popular midday TV program. Now, he has starred in several films, eight of which are considered to be the highest-grossing in Philippine cinema.

My Favorite TV Series

Let's talk about our favorite TV series! Mine is Emily in Paris at the moment. "At the moment" because it changes every week or every month!

Emily in Paris is one of my latest and biggest Netflix obsessions. It follows a young American woman, who gets the chance at her dream job in Paris. That dream job is working for a French marketing firm, with the task of bringing an American perspective to the company.

It is an American comedy drama web television series that stars Lily Collins as the main character, or Emily, an American woman moving to Paris for a job opportunity. There she struggles to succeed in the workplace while searching for love and experiencing cultural clash with her boring midwestern upbringing. She faces her new reality in the "City of Love" head-on as she learns to juggle work, friendship, and romance.

Let me tell you about the other characters:

  • Gabriel, Emily's love interest and downstairs neighbor who works as a chef;
  • Sylvie, Emily's tough French boss at the marketing firm who takes an immediate disliking to Emily; and
  • Mindy Chen, Emily's new best friend and guide to life in Paris.
I like it because the show is full of quirky humor, quirkier characters, and lust-worthy fashion. In fact, Lily Collins' evening look was actually inspired by Audrey Hepburn.

This show is very close to my heart because I see myself in Emily when she moved to Paris. I went through the same struggles as her when I first got here in Spain, and it's funny how it felt like I was watching myself through her character.

I highly recommend it if you like watching romantic comedy shows or films. It makes you want to go to Paris, but since we can't travel to be in Paris right now, why don't we bring Paris to us?

A Day in My Life

Do you ever wonder how others live their lives? What time do they sleep? What kind of food do they eat? What activity takes the most of their time?

This is related to the lesson that you’ve learned called “Daily Routines.” I did an activity with some groups wherein I asked them to make their own timetable.

I think it’s always interesting to know other people’s routines even if there’s nothing special about it. Knowing their daily routines give us an idea about their attitude and personality.

Well, now, I’m sharing this quick video so you can take a peek of how my day usually goes outside the classroom. (Spoiler alert: It’s nothing special!) I’ve been busy these past few days because I moved in to a new flat and it’s not as simple as it sounds. Sadly, I know many of you might not find that interesting, so I hope I’ll get to make another one of this video, but longer and something that’s actually fun to watch.

BACK TO BILINGUAL LIFE

Hi everyone!!
It's been long since my last post, I hope you are doing very well and are excited about going back to school. At our IES Clara Campoamor we have already started bilingual life with one of our language assistants for this school year, LYNIEL, from The Philippines. She is having lessons with every group in order to meet all of them before starting bilingual subjects such as PE, music, biology and geology, maths, geography and history...I'm sure she will do very well and I hope you will enjoy having your lessons in English. Good luck everyone!!:)

Goodbye! (for now)

Good morning,

I am just writing today for which will be my last blog. It is such a shame that the year has ended in very strange circumstances however it does not change the months I spent at IES Clara Campoamor before.

It was such a pleasure to work in your school, I had such a great time meeting all of you and teaching in the classroom over the time that I did. I hope that I have helped some of you as much as you have helped me. I will always remember Lucena with happy memories. For now I hope you all enjoy the rest of your year and your summer holidays with friends and family. I will be back again when I can return to say goodbye properly but for now goodbye and take care. (I will accept your Instagram requests finally!) 😄👋🏻

Let's stay positive!

HELLO EVERYONE

I wanted to create a video for you all with some positive words and tell you what has helped me to be mentally and physically healthy. It is so important to take care of yourselves and your family by supporting each other, communicating, and staying positive. It is easy to be sad and angry during this situation, but it is also worth the time to find the good things. It was a bit difficult for me to make this video, because I do struggle with my emotions every day when I think about what is going on in the world right now, but there are many things I do everyday to ease my emotions. I hope that you are being creative, trying to have fun and being happy. It is okay to be emotional, but make sure to express your emotions in a healthy way. I hope to see you all soon. Sending my love :)

Things you can do at home:

Cook, yoga, meditate, exercise, create art, read, watch films, dance, sing, play an instrument, organize your room, write, create a game, play video games, email relatives, video chat with friends, make goals, learn a new skill, do pushups. There are so many things you can do, just get creative :)

Writing prompt for today:
Find a good spot in front of your favorite window. What do you see? Write about the view this can be a description of what’s happening right now, or you can write about a fictional reality. Maybe the window is open and sounds, smells, and a breeze are coming in; maybe there are people in the street, maybe it’s empty. Either way, record the moment.

Recipe contest

Hello again!
Today I would like to tell you about the recipe contest that we organised a few weeks ago on occasion of the visit that primary school students paid us to get to know their future school next year. Our students in 1ºA and 1ºC did this wonderful job. They made different British featured cakes following their recipe in English and they wrote the recipe for everyone to read and see how they had been made. Everyone enjoyed lots and all the cakes were yummy!! The judge chose the three best to be awarded a price, below you can see a picture of all of them. Thanks everyone for your hard work!!:)
See you soon and have a good day.

Best project 2nd ESO (second term)

Hi, guys!
How are you? I hope you are doing well with all your exams and projects. I haven't written in a while, it's been Frida and George who did. Did you watch the videos that Frida recorded and edited for you to follow her on her trip around Europe? They are worth seeing!
And today, what I want you to share with you is the project that four students in 2ºC did for their bilingual subjects as the final term project. This time they had to do a webquest about the Middle Ages (you can visit it by clicking on the picture) and they wrote their answers in this original, beautiful and colourful poster that I really loved. Thank you Fernando, Simón, Rafa and Óscar for your good job!!!

School day of Peace

Peace is a very important part of our lives as it helps us to have more joy and happiness in the world. I think it is achieved through care and love, and should always be a main focus for all of us everyday. The world is a much better place with peace and love.

This day is celebrated on the 30th January because it is the day a very important person who understood peace died, Mohatma Ghandi. He was a very famous Indian man that during the early 1900's, fought for the rights of Indian People. He did it in a non-violent way and with peaceful protests, he treated all people equal and became a huge figure in the world as a symbol of peace, and still is today.

It was great to see so many of the students and teachers involved in such a great day and below I have put some of the pictures of the different activities towards peace.

Winter Holidays!!!

For the holidays, my family came to visit me for 2 weeks. We decided to take advantage of our location in Lucena and explore Andalusia. We rented a Fiat car and drove every day from Lucena to a new destination.

Here is my father, mother and younger brother in Granada

The first place we went to see was Rute. We visited the Belén de Chocolate and I loved seeing the chocolate sculptures and eating lots of sweets from Rute.

This was one of my favorite pastries from Rute

The following day, we visited Iberfauna, an environmental education center and wildlife reserve in Zuheros. They had a variety of animals such as Iberian wolf, fox, lynx, roe deer, and goats and donkeys. We also went on a beautiful hike called CAÑON DEL RIO BAILÓN.

My favorite animals were Dicky the goat and Platea the donkey.

Iznájar,  was the final small town we visited and it was my favorite. We walked everywhere until we found the castle of Iznájar. The view from the castle was breathtaking and the tour was very interactive.

We then traveled to the big cities like Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. My family loved Cordoba and they were impressed with the Mezquita. We also enjoyed walking and blowing bubbles in the Plaza of Espana. We walked through the Albaicín until we reached the Mirador de San Nicolás, and fell in love with the view of the Alambra and the ambience of Granada. The Picasso museum in Malaga was very interesting and my mom loves art, so she enjoyed it the most.

Ofcourse, I went to see the parade of Los Reyes Magos and loved seeing how creative the floats were.

These were my Christmas holidays and I enjoyed every second of traveling and being with my family!

Thank you for reading :)
